These are the four sports that will make you burn the most calories!
- Running: Running in order to lose weight is effective because you’re both working on burning calories quickly and on getting fit. With a regular walking tempo (around 5 km/h) you’ll burn about 260 calories an hour. If you up your tempo, you’ll be burning twice as much before you know it! With a casual jog you’ll burn 650 calories an hour. Perhaps it’s time to get out those running shoes again…
- Biking: When you’re biking at a slow or casual tempo (less than 10 km/h) you’ll burn 330 calories an hour. A regular tempo will cause you to burn twice as many calories already, and if you really put your back into it you can burn 1300 calories an hour! Plus, it’s fun, because you’re outside in the fresh air and you might see some nice scenery. What more do you want?
- Swimming: Swimming is a great way to lose weight. Treading water isn’t very effective (250 calories an hour), but you do burn a lot of calories while swimming laps. If you do this at a calm tempo and do a backstroke or breaststroke you can burn up to 500 calories an hour. If you do a butterfly stroke, you can burn up to 900 calories an hour! Plus, you’ll be training your muscles at the same time.
- Going to the gym: With lifting light weights or doing light fitness exercise you’ll burn about 250 calories an hour. It also builds your muscle mass, which makes you burn fat faster. Combined with cardio (running, cross trainer), this is a great way to lose weight.
