Getting out yellow stains is easier than you might think!

Spring has sprung, so it’s time to get out our white shirts, blouses and dresses! We love white clothing, but unfortunately they can easily get ruined by yellow stains at the arm pits or around the neck. It makes us hesitant to even wear white clothes, because those stains are a pain to get out again. Luckily, you don’t have to throw out your yellow-stained clothes if you use this easy trick!

You only need a few simple things.

Deodorant and salt

Everybody sweats. Especially when it’s hot out there’s no escaping it, even if you keep your deodorant on hand at all times. But when the temperatures are rising, we’re also much more inclined to wear white clothes. Unfortunately, the reaction that happens when deodorant comes into contact with the salt from your sweat causes yellow stains. Lucky for you, we’ve got a very simple and cheap solution!

This is what you need:

  • 250 ml white vinegar
  • 500 ml warm water
  • 120 g baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide

This is how you do it:

  1. Mix together the vinegar and the warm water in a bowl or bucket. Put the stained item of clothing into the bucket and let it soak in there for 20 minutes. Vinegar also helps to combat unpleasant smells, so you’re killing two birds with one stone.
  2. Mix together the baking soda, salt and hydrogen peroxide in a glass or stone bowl until it forms a paste. Take the item of clothing out of the bucket with vinegar water and carefully wring it out. Lay it out flat on top of a towel and then rub the paste you’ve just made onto the yellow stains. The hydrogen peroxide will make sure that the clothing will become white again and the baking soda and salt will work together to remove the stains from the fibers of the clothing. Let this mixture sit and do its work for 20 minutes as well.
  3. Wash the item of clothing like you would normally do and leave it to dry. Your white shirt will be snow white once more!

Good for the environment

So, there’s no need to buy expensive products to get rid of these yellow stains. Another benefit: all of the ingredients you need for this solution are environmentally friendly. Plus, vinegar, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are very useful to have around for cleaning purposes in general.
