So instead of throwing your used coffee away, scrub it on your dishes until the remaining dirt is gone. After this, make sure you clean the pots and pans with water and soap so there won’t be any coffee grounds left.

12. Clean your house and repel insects with peppermint oil

So this one is a win-win! It not only cleans your house with just a few natural ingredients, but it also repels insects. Oh, and it leaves your house smelling amazing. Does that mean it’s a win-win-win? Anyway, the only thing you need is around 6 drops of peppermint oil per ounce of hot water and you're done. You can put it in a spray bottle and make countertops shine and clean.

The reason why peppermint works really well as a cleaning product is because it is an antifungal, antiviral, and antimicrobial agent. 

11. The 10-minute rule

Cleaning can be an overwhelming task, especially when you’re always busy. If you don’t clean regularly it can pile up and seem like a lot more work than it is. To prevent you from procrastinating, you can use the 10-minute rule to create a house as clean as on the picture above. You can apply the 10-minute rule as much as you would like but the most common thing is to use it right before bedtime. Set a timer for 10 minutes and try to pick up as much as possible in that time period. The trick is to keep moving and put items back where they belong.

If you put a timer on you will be more productive and get more things done. If you do this every day for at least once, you will see that your house will look a lot tidier. 

10. Use lemon to clean your cutting board

If you use plastic cutting boards, you probably already noticed that they can get quite dirty over time. This does not only look disgusting, but it is also the perfect place for accumulating bacteria. Something you can do to prevent this is squeeze a lemon onto your cutting board after you use it. With the remaining lemon, you scrub the board to get it clean. This will kill most of the germs and some dish soap will do the rest.

9. Use ammonia to soften your towels

Using a freshly new and soft towel after a shower is probably one of the best feelings ever. Too bad this feeling won’t last forever as the towels become more like cardboard after a few uses. If you want your towels to feel soft again, try using ammonia. You have to put four parts hot water and one part ammonia in a bucket and let the towels soak in it. After this, wash your towels as normal and they will be very soft again.

Be careful though! Use goggles and don’t lean over the bucket because the fumes are very toxic. 

8. Put a dishwasher tablet in the shower 

We all know the problem of dirty shower glass. It can be very frustrating when you are cleaning your shower and you can’t get the soap scum off your shower glass. Next time when you’re cleaning your shower, try this easy tip. Use a dishwasher tablet to scrub the soap scums off and make the glass sparkle again. Make a bucket of hot water and throw a dishwater tablet in it and wait for it to dissolve. Now you can clean your shower with a sponge and the cleaning solution.

7. Put a tennis ball in your drying machine to get your pillows clean and puffy again

How many times have you ever washed your pillows? If the answer is never, start washing your pillows right now. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. A lot of people barely or even never wash their pillows. That’s kinda crazy because you sleep on it every night and we wouldn’t wear clothes for such a long time without washing them, so why would you do that with your pillow?  It’s unknown why everyone is so scared to wash their pillows because if you use this easy trick you will see that there’s nothing to be scared about.

Just wash your pillows as you wash your clothes in the washing machine. Afterward, put them in the dryer machine and put a couple of tennis balls in it. This will help to fluff the pillows back and break up feather clumps.

6. Unclogging with a tie-wrap

Is your drain clogged by a buildup of hair and dirt? You can easily solve that with a tie-wrap. Cut a few notches in it with a knife, insert the tie-wrap into the drain and you'll see that you can lift up all the dirt with it!

5. Wiping away shoe marks with a tennis ball

Dark shoe soles can quickly create black streaks on the floor. There's a handy solution for that too: take a tennis ball and rub the stripes with it a few times. They will disappear like snow in the sun.

2. A beautiful shine thanks to greaseproof paper

Greaseproof paper (looks like baking paper, but with a base of wax) is increasingly used in the kitchen for all sorts of things. You can also use it to rub ironwork in your kitchen. It then degreases the ironwork and gives it a nice shine.

Finally, did you spill candle wax on a carpet? You can get that out using an iron and some kitchen paper. Place several sheets of kitchen paper on the stain and then gently iron over it. Change the kitchen papers a few times in between. The result: no more stain!
