Otherwise you’ll lose more than just your luggage…

Adding a luggage tag to our suitcase before going on holiday always gives us a sense of accomplishment. Not everyone is so well-prepared that they’ve got tags to add to their luggage! But we are, and we’re the better for it; if our luggage gets lost, at least it will be found again, right? Wrong! Adding a tag to your luggage can be really dangerous!

It actually makes you very vulnerable.

Tagging your luggage is actually very risky, even though you might think it’s more safe to do so in case your suitcase is lost. Richard Clive Owens regularly travels for work and other events and he told Mamamia that he things luggage tags are unsafe. They spread a message you don’t want to send, namely: “This house is empty, please burgle – and take your time.” You also shouldn’t put the address of a friend of family member on the tag, since criminals will then simply go there to break in instead.

Work address

By adding a luggage tag with your home address on it you’re basically giving criminals the opportunity to rob your home. That’s not what you want! If you’d wanted to be robbed, you could just have left your front door unlocked. Owens recommends the following alternative: “Ideally put a work address and mobile number on it. Then, even if your mobile has a problem, your name and work address will help you and your underwear get reunited.”

So, next time you want to add a luggage tag, don’t put your home address on it. That way, both your suitcase and your belongings at home will be safe!
