Here are a couple of ways you can clean a used scouring pad

Clean with bleach

Bleach is a good remedy to remove stubborn bacteria from your scouring pad. Fill a bucket one-fourth full of water, and add three tablespoons of bleach. Soak the sponge in this mixture for at least five minutes. Then remove the sponge from the bleach and wring it out well. Allow the scouring pad to dry thoroughly before using it again. Of course, pay attention to your clothes when using bleach, and wear household gloves when holding the sponge if it contains bleach.

Cleaning in the dishwasher

Another option to clean your sponge scourer is in the dishwasher. This method is less effective than cleaning with bleach, but at least it doesn’t involve strong chemical odors. Put the sponge in the dishwasher and run at a high temperature, and allow the scouring pad to dry in the closed dishwasher. Your sponge is then ready to use again.
