This is how you make sure your jewelry stays sparkly and shiny
When you wear your jewelry every day, it can cause your necklaces, rings, cufflinks, watches or earrings to look a little dull and dusty. Luckily, there are ways to make sure your jewelry looks fresh and shiny again.
Silver, steel or titanium
If you own jewelry made of silver, steel or titanium that has become dull over time, there’s an easy way to fix it. Al you need is a bowl of water, a little dish soap and a toothbrush with soft bristles. Just add the dish soap to the bowl of water, submerge your jewelry and brush gently with the toothbrush. Next, rinse the jewelry with some lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft cloth. If you put the jewelry out to dry on a piece of paper for a few hours, your rings, necklaces or earrings will look good as new!
Pearls or diamonds
Some jewelry is adorned with pearls and diamonds. Pearls are very delicate and you are not supposed to use any cleaning supplies on them. So if you want to clean the pearls, you can do so with a soft, moist cloth.
Diamonds have to be cleaned pretty often (usually once a month), because they get dim more easily. The way to clean a diamond is the same as the method used for cleaning your silver, titanium or steel jewelry: with water, a bit of dish soap and a toothbrush. Wash the diamond in the soapy water, brush with the soft toothbrush, rinse and pat dry with the soft cloth. This will make your diamonds shine bright again!
Gemstones
Cleaning gemstones requires a little bit of expert knowledge; the method of cleaning depends on the kind of gemstone you want to clean. Most of the gemstones can be cleaned with a soft toothbrush or a soft cloth (no water with dish soap). Some gemstones like aquamarine, amethyst, labradorite or tiger’s eye are very fragile and should only be cleaned with water.
Polishing
If your silver or gold jewelry gets extremely dim and dusty, you can use a polishing cloth to make your jewelry look brand new. First clean your jewelry according to the methods mentioned above and then polish them with your polishing cloth. Just make sure to leave the polishing cloth out of the washing machine because that will remove the polishing substance that is in the cloth.
After applying these methods of cleaning, you will look sparkly and fresh all year round!
