Boyfriend: ‘I left my girlfriend behind on top of a mountain’

The man decided to descend on his own, otherwise he would miss a soccer game

Joey* is a real sports lover. He likes to watch sports, but is also a fanatic mountaineer. His girlfriend Ruby* is a bit less sporty, but one morning she decided to take up the challenge and go on a walk with Joey. Joey didn’t like the idea, but decided to give it a chance. Together they went out to climb a mountain, but unfortunately Joey’s suspicions came true.

Left early

“Sunday I climbed a mountain. The climb was easy to do, especially if you’re a little more experienced like me, but it still takes some time,” Joey begins his story. “I left early, so I would be back at one o’clock for a soccer game I couldn’t miss. I also told her that I would walk at a fast pace, because I had to be home in time for the race”. Joey offered to take a lighter walk together later that week so it was a bit more relaxed for Ruby. “But she insisted on coming along and was confident she could keep up with me.”

Turning around is not an option

So Joey took Ruby to the mountain. “But of course it wasn’t like that,” Joey continues. “She fell right behind, before the real climb even started. I soon realized she wouldn’t be able to keep up and I offered to go back. I said we could try again later, at a quieter time. However, turning around wasn’t an option for Ruby, she was convinced she just needed to get used to the difference in altitude. “Nonsense of course, it took us more than two hours to climb to the top and she just begged for water along the way”.
