The man’s massive arms wrapped securely around the child’s small torso, scooping the nine-year-old clean off his feet before he hit the tile floor. The older boy spun around, eyes wide, his mouth opening in shock.
Panic roared inside Jason's chest. This is it. I'm watching a kid get snatched right in front of me. Jason bolted out of his booth, turning frantically to the rest of the dining room. "Hey! Look! He's taking the kid!" Jason shouted, gesturing wildly toward the entrance. "Somebody help! Stop him!" He expected a surge of patrons to leap to their feet. He expected the teenagers behind the counter to yell or grab their phones.
Instead, nothing happened. The patrons just sat there, frozen wide-eyed in horror, locked in stunned silence like statues. Nobody moved. Nobody made a sound. Everyone was paralyzed by the size of the man and the suddenness of the moment. Realizing no one was coming, a wave of cold determination washed over Jason. Giving up on everyone else, he clenched his fists, set his jaw, and surged forward down the aisle. He was going to confront the large man himself.
