"Officers are en route. Do not intervene. Keep a safe distance and stay on the line." Jason lowered the phone to his lap, keeping the line active, and switched on his camera app. If the man tried to drag one of the boys out into the storm before the police arrived, he needed a clear visual of his face for the investigation. He pressed record and rested the phone lens over the edge of the booth.
On the screen, the man took another step forward. The harsh fluorescent lights glinted off his short haircut. He was right behind the boys now, shadowing their every move. The nine-year-old was visibly buckling from exhaustion. His knees wobbled under the weight of the heavy cooler he’d been lugging around in the rain. He stumbled sideways, losing his balance completely.
The man lunged forward with sudden, explosive speed. "He's moving! He's grabbing him!" Jason yelled into the phone, his voice cracking as he bolted up from his seat. His phone camera shook violently as he recorded.
