When Your Cat Ignores You
Few things bruise the ego quite like calling your cat’s name and getting absolutely nothing in return. Not a glance. Not an ear twitch. Not even the polite fake interest they give a cupboard door. Meanwhile, shake one packet of treats and suddenly they can hear through walls.
This does not always mean your cat has no idea who you are. Many cats recognize familiar voices, routines, footsteps, and smells. They simply do not treat every human request as a command. To a cat, being called is more like receiving an invitation. They will consider it, weigh the benefits, and reply whenever it suits them.
That selective response is part of their charm, or at least that is what cat owners tell themselves. If your cat ignores you, it may just mean they feel secure enough to make their own choices. When they finally do come over, it is not because they were ordered to. It is because they decided you were worth the trip.
