When Your Cat Gets The Zoomies
Zoomies are one of the purest cat mysteries. Your cat may be calm for hours, then suddenly launch across the room, bounce off a chair, slide around a corner, and vanish under the sofa. Nothing is chasing them. Nothing happened. They simply became a small indoor lightning bolt.
Most of the time, zoomies are a normal energy release. Cats are built for short bursts of speed, stalking, pouncing, and sudden movement. If an indoor cat has spent the day napping, that stored energy has to go somewhere. Unfortunately, it often goes through your hallway at full speed.
The same instinct can explain playful foot attacks. Moving feet under a blanket or across the floor can trigger a hunting response. Your cat is not plotting your downfall. They may just need more play that lets them chase something appropriate. A toy mouse is better than your ankle, although your ankle apparently has excellent movement quality.
