Through the heavy rain, the sharp crunch of gravel echoed from the driveway, accompanied by blinding beams of white light cutting through the darkness. "FREEZE! POLICE! DROP THE WEAPON NOW!" A chorus of shouts echoed across the yard as three armed officers rushed the patio, their tactical lights pinned directly on the courier.
The man froze, dropping the tire iron into the grass before raising his hands in total surrender. Two officers slammed the courier onto the wet patio tiles, pinning him down and clicking heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. A third officer drew his weapon, pointing it directly at Richard. "Don't move! Put your hands behind your back!"
Before Richard could speak, officers pulled him up and clicked handcuffs onto his wrists as well. A lead detective stepped out of the rain, looking between the shattered glass door, the terrified homeowner, and the courier on the ground, completely confused by the scene.
