Then comes the question everyone asks when they hear that four people live inside the garage. Where does everyone sleep? The answer is one of the cleverest parts of the entire conversion. At the back of the garage, the parents have their own cozy sleeping nook. Rather than building a separate bedroom with full walls, they used a partial partition and curtains to create a private area without making the rest of the garage feel closed in.
The bed sits beneath a large window, allowing natural light to reach the space during the day. At night, thick curtains can be drawn for privacy. But the children have an even more creative arrangement. Two compact bunk beds were built into a wooden alcove along the opposite wall. Each child has their own sleeping space, complete with a small reading light and storage compartment for personal belongings. Drawers beneath the beds hold clothing, blankets and toys, eliminating the need for large wardrobes.
The arrangement might sound cramped when described on paper. Standing inside the finished space tells a different story. Because the beds are built into the walls instead of taking up additional floor space, the family still has room to walk around and use the rest of the garage. The parents also use the area beneath their own bed for additional storage. Even the walls have a purpose, with shelves holding books and everyday items.
