4 tips from doctors to boost your immune system

Avoid processed foods

“Processed food contains few nutrients, but it fills us in such a way that it can take the place of food that is nutritious and that would support the immune system,” says Dr Joan Ifland. Although she is realistic, she understands that people sometimes crave processed food. “If it happens occasionally, it doesn’t matter. But if it happens often, the immune system doesn’t get sufficient nutrients and the immune system can’t function well enough to fight viruses.”

Don’t take too many supplements

Doctor Sovndal warns people about supplements. “Many people have supplements in their home, but it has not been proven that it really helps if you have an unhealthy diet,” she says. Doctor Purvi Parikh also agrees. “No supplement has been proven to boost your immune system.” Therefore, do not take supplements as replacement of a healthy diet.

Can you really give your immune system a boost?

However, Dr. Rand McClain would like to make a small comment about an immune system boost. According to him, that term is often misinterpreted. “Someone’s immune system develops during the earliest part of your life. Starting with the immunity that the mother gives to the child during the last trimester of pregnancy and which is later given to the child through breastfeeding. The body then learns to fight against diseases,” said McClain. It’s not possible to make your immune system a lot stronger than it already is, but the tips in this article are small things you can do to help your immune system to be strong.
