Have you tried these cleaning hacks?

There are so many cleaning hacks out there these days! YouTube, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram are filled with them. And some of them are actually pretty surprising and strange. We listed some of the weirdest cleaning hacks for you. Find out more below!

Cheap is better

To be fair, this might not really be a ‘weird’ cleaning hack. But it definitely is a surprising one: you don’t have to spend a lot of money on cleaning products. According to Ilya Ornatov, founder of NW Maids Cleaning Service in Seattle, cheaper cleaning products work just as well. She told The Spruce: “Common household cleaners can be just as effective, without damaging the surfaces in your home or leaving toxic residue on your hands.”

Toothpaste

Did you know that you can fix your glass and mirrors with toothpaste? Bard Roberson, President of Glass Doctor, told The Spruce that when you use toothpaste on your glass or mirrors, you can fix scratches. He said: “Use a small dab of toothpaste and a soft cloth to gently scrub away small scratches on windows and glass.” Just make sure that you use a toothpaste with ‘gentle abrasive properties’.

Coffee in your fridge

Casey Allen, the founder of Barista Warrior, provided The Spruce with a helpful tip that involves coffee. “If your fridge doesn’t smell good, [or if]… you forgot to clean it up, coffee can come to your rescue … Just take some coffee and keep it in a small bowl inside the fridge. It works as a great fridge-deodorant.”

Ketchup

Did you know that you can clean silver with ketchup and bananas? Ana Andres, Co-founder of TidyChoice, told The Spruce: “Ketchup is one of those surprising items that will bring back the shine to your silver … Simply pour ketchup into a plate and place the silver until it is fully submerged. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then you can remove and rinse the silver with warm water.”

Reusing gloves

Another surprising cleaning fact is that you should not reuse your gloves. It might seem like the saver option to cover your hands and make sure they don’t get dirty. But reusing gloves actually makes the surfaces you’re trying to clean, dirtier. Ornatov explains: “Don’t reuse gloves … They carry germs on them wherever you go! Instead, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.”
