Meghan Markle pays tribute to late mother-in-law Diana

Butterfly earrings

The Duchess of Sussex wore a beautiful white dress on the day of her pregnancy announcement. Diana wore a similar kind of dress once, which is something fans noticed immediately. There was a small, touching detail they only noticed a little later, though. Meghan was wearing Princess Diana’s butterfly earrings.

Bracelet

Ladi Di wore these earrings during her royal tour of Canada in 1986. By wearing the earrings on the day her pregnancy was announced, Meghan seems to have wanted to pay tribute to her mother-in-law. Meghan didn’t just wear Diana’s earrings, though, but also a small gold bracelet with blue stones that belonged to her as well. This wasn’t the first time the Duchess of Sussex has worn jewellery that belonged to Harry’s mother. During her wedding in May, Meghan wore a ring that belonged to Diana.

Inheritance

It’s not that strange that Meghan wears Diana’s jewellery on occasion. When Diana passed away, her sons inherited her jewellery collection. In a letter that came along with the jewellery, Diana wrote that the jewels were meant for the future wives of her sons. The letter read: “I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it.”
