Coast Guard Sonar Picked Up Something on the Seafloor — Then Divers Went Down

The disoriented man reeled backward, clutching his cracked faceplate as pressurized seawater flooded his mask. Samira lunged through the cloud of bubbles, grabbing Jax by his buoyancy vest and pulling his thrashing body toward a narrow drainage conduit near the floorboards.

"Breathe off my auxiliary regulator!" she ordered through her mask, shoving her spare mouthpiece into his hands. "Take short, slow breaths—we're sharing one tank!"

Jax grabbed the regulator, taking a desperate draught of compressed air as they squeezed into the cramped pipe network. But panic and heavy exertion were burning through her remaining air supply at double the normal rate. The needle on Samira's pressure gauge plunged dangerously into the red zone, her chest tightening as each inhale felt increasingly thin and shallow. Behind them, heavy metallic thuds echoed through the iron walls as the remaining men fired blindly into the pipe entrance, trapping them in the dark while their air rapidly ran out.
