"Davis! Miller! Move!" Mark screamed over the sudden, rising howl of the wind. He sprinted back to the timber barn as the sky darkened to near-twilight. Davis and Miller burst out of the barn door, their eyes wide as they looked up at the swirling clouds assembling directly above the ridge.
"The sheep were standing in the touchdown zone!" Mark yelled over the roaring air. "The cyclone is dropping right on the meadow!" With no time to reach the lower trailhead, Mark, Davis, and Miller scrambled back into the heavy timber barn, pulling the thick oak door shut and dropping the heavy iron latch into place just as the storm hit full force.
Outside, the wind transformed into a deafening, metallic roar. The heavy timber beams of the barn groaned under immense pressure as dust and debris rattled against the wooden walls.
