Park Ranger Finds Massive Nest In Forest, Then He Looks Inside

Brian stumbled forward, clutching his sore shoulder, his flashlight beam slicing wildly through the trees. "Hey! Stop!" By the time the light hit the clearing, the entity was gone. Only bent fern fronds and swaying brush remained.

Brian stood hands-on-knees, struggling to catch his breath. Whatever had just dropped from the canopy had survived a massive fall and moved with terrifying, desperate speed. There was absolutely no chance of tracking something that fast on foot through unmapped forest in the pitch black.

He looked back toward the towering pine. The structure sat silent once more. If he wanted answers about what was occupying this sector, the evidence was forty feet in the air. Checking his grip, Brian approached the pine a second time. His muscles burned from the fall, but he climbed steadily, relying on the beam of his chest-light. Reaching the underside, he found a narrow opening where the woven branches yielded, and hauled himself inside.
