Family Takes Vacation Photo — They Get Goosebumps Looking at This One!

Claire stared at the laptop while the shapes finally made sense. The bright material was a collapsed paraglider canopy tangled across the rocks. Thin lines ran toward a harness. Beneath it was a man wedged on a narrow ledge halfway down the cliff. One leg looked trapped. His body leaned against the stone. “Call someone,” David said. Claire already had her phone in her hand.

“Emergency services. What is your location?” the dispatcher asked. Claire explained the walk, the photograph, and the cliff. “We think a paraglider crashed,” she said. “The picture was taken hours ago.” David opened a map beside her. “Tell them the viewpoint is north of the old lighthouse.” Claire passed on the details and stayed on the line until the dispatcher said rescue teams were en route.

They were asked to return to the trail entrance if they could do so safely. When Claire and David arrived, emergency vehicles were gathering near a temporary command post. A rescue coordinator studied their photograph and then raised binoculars toward the cliff. “Can you see him?” Claire asked. The coordinator spoke into his radio first. “Possible casualty confirmed. Mid-cliff ledge.” Then he looked at her. “We have him. He moved.” Claire felt a brief rush of relief. The coordinator was already turning away. “Now we have to reach him.”
