At Dad's Funeral, Little Kid Says, "Daddy Is Still Alive” — Then The Police Discover Something

Marcus pulled his unmarked sedan to the curb of the dimly lit coastal motel, the sea fog rolling heavily across the pavement. He double-checked his phone screen, where the encrypted signal pinged directly from Room 114. "Just hang on a little longer, Dan," Marcus muttered to himself, stepping quietly onto the creaky wooden walkway toward the back door.

He picked the lock with practiced, silent precision, slipping inside with his hand resting cautiously on his holstered service weapon. The room was freezing and completely stripped bare, devoid of luggage or clothes. In the center of the stained mattress sat a small battery-powered tape player, its red standby light blinking like a pulse in the dark.

Marcus leaned over and hit play. Daniel’s raspy voice echoed through the speaker: "I know you're following. But I have the evidence." Marcus stared at the spinning tape deck, his jaw tightening in frustration. He realized Daniel had anticipated being tracked and intentionally laid a decoy. Marcus was at wit’s end now, but he felt he could rely on one last way.
