At Dad's Funeral, Little Kid Says, "Daddy Is Still Alive” — Then The Police Discover Something

Marcus stepped quietly down the carpeted stairs, Daniel’s worn leather notebook tucked discreetly inside his jacket. Captain Hayes stood in the hallway, setting down a container of dinner for Clara. "Just checking into Daniel’s old case notes," Marcus explained, keeping his voice low and steady. "If there’s a corrupt link in our unit, the answer is in his personal files."

Captain Sarah Hayes looked at him with tired, worried eyes. "Marcus, you need to let Internal Affairs handle this. You're stretching yourself too thin." Marcus shook his head, glancing toward Clara in the living room. "I made a promise to protect this family, Sarah. I’m not letting whoever set Daniel up walk away from this. I have to find out what he knew."

As Marcus closed the front door behind him, he checked his phone for any new pings on the tracking software. Every lead pointed to the fact that Daniel was still out there, hiding in the shadows. He gripped the steering wheel, determined to find his partner before other officers inside their own department got to him first.
