"Call him off, please!" the woman pleaded, her teeth chattering uncontrollably from the cold. "I'm not going to hurt you! I'm Dr. Aris—I'm a research fellow with the state geological survey team!" Evelyn kept her firm grip on Duke’s harness, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. Duke remained planted in his guard stance, a wall of muscle between them.
"If you're a scientist, why are you spying on my home?" Evelyn demanded, her voice cutting through the wind. "Why do you have microphones pointed at my living room?" she asked. "I wasn't spying on you!" Dr. Aris stammered, raising her hands higher as Duke let out a low warning huff. "I attempted to walk up to your cabin earlier to drop off a notification note, but the blizzard hit so fast I panicked and retreated to my equipment shelter!"
"That doesn't explain why you're recording my house," Evelyn countered coldly. "That device isn’t meant to record your house!" Dr. Aris yelled over the wind. "I can explain everything, just please let me step closer before I freeze!"
