How to unclog a sink with dish soap and hot water

Dish soap and hot water could be the solution

Preventing is always better than fixing but a clogged sink happens. Super annoying, but thankfully you don’t need to run straight to chemical solutions. Just dish soap and hot water can get you pretty far.

No chemicals

Ryan Nelson, owner of Nelson’s plumbing, tells LankMarkhw that it’s better to not use any chemicals when unclogging a sink. “Chemical drain cleaners only damage the pipes,” he says. He advises removing the source of the blockage, but unfortunately that is not always possible. Fortunately, you can also try to eliminate the blockage with dish soap and hot water.

Hot water

If you have a blockage in the kitchen drain, Nelson recommends flushing hot water down your sink first. And by hot water he doesn’t mean the hottest water that comes out of your tap. The best thing to do is boil some water. After the water in the kettle has boiled, it usually reaches around 90 to 95 degrees, while the hottest water from the tap usually doesn’t exceed 70 degrees.
