What About That Box of Mystery Cables?
Now for one of the most frustrating categories of household clutter: electronics. Many people have a drawer, box or basket filled with chargers and cables they can't identify. The problem is obvious. You don't want to throw away something important, but you also don't know what half of the wires actually belong to. Start by identifying the electronics you still own.
If you got rid of the device years ago, you probably don't need its charger, remote or specialized cable anymore. Old electronics can be considered separately too. And then there are CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes. If you no longer have the equipment to play them and don't have any particular reason to keep them, they may simply be taking up space. Going forward, make things easier on yourself.
When you buy a new electronic device, label its charger or cable. That tiny habit can save you from creating another box of mystery wires a few years from now. Because one forgotten cable doesn't seem like a problem. Thirty unidentified cables stuffed into a drawer definitely are.
