Your Junk Drawer Needs a Serious Look
Almost every home has one. A drawer filled with random cards, papers, old coupons, manuals, pens and things that don't seem to belong anywhere else. Start with old membership and reward cards. If you no longer use an account, there's little reason to keep the physical card taking up space. Then look at owner's manuals.
If you still own the appliance, you may want to keep important information somewhere accessible, but many manuals can now be found online. That means you don't necessarily need a drawer full of instruction booklets from appliances you bought years ago. Old coupons can go too. So can takeout menus from restaurants you haven't ordered from in years, especially when menus are readily available online. And then there are those empty gift cards.
Once the balance is gone, the card itself probably doesn't need a permanent home in your junk drawer. Finally, look through old magazines and notebooks. If you've already read something and have no intention of returning to it, ask yourself why you're still storing it. A junk drawer shouldn't be a museum for things you might possibly need one day.
