Is someone having an epileptic seizure? This is what you should do

Steps to take when some is having an epileptic seizure:

  • Is the person still having the attack or are they unconscious? Call the emergency number or have someone nearby call it for you. Put the phone on loudspeaker.
  • Try to put the victim in a position so that they cannot hurt themselves.
  • Do not put anything in the victim’s mouth. During the first phase of the attack, the jaw muscles can suddenly tighten. This can cause the victim to bite hard on their tongue, which is called a tongue bite. A tongue bite cannot be prevented, even when something is put in the victim’s mouth.
  • If the victim has recovered before the ambulance arrives, call the emergency number again for telephone support.
  • Has the victim indicated that they often suffer from epileptic seizures? If so, then wait for the attack to take its course before calling the emergency number for telephone support.
