Every car owner should know these nifty tricks

Owning a car comes with many responsibilities. You need to pay extra taxes as well as making sure your car is in good enough condition to drive. Change the oil, check the tyre pressure and regularly bring it to a garage to get it checked. Yes, owning a car isn’t all fun and games. But besides maintaining what’s under the hood of the car, you should also regularly clean the interior and exterior of your car. And that’s where we come in! With these seven nifty tricks your car will shine like never before.

Were you familiar with these tricks already?

Clean the headlights

After driving around for a while your headlights could look a little dull and dirty. Luckily, they’re easily cleaned with some whitening toothpaste. Just grab a tube and slather it on the headlights, covering them in toothpaste entirely. You can simply use your fingertips to do this. Let it sit for about 15 minutes. Grab an old toothbrush and start scrubbing at the headlights. You’ll see that the toothpaste turns brown because of all the grime that’s on the glass. After you’ve scrubbed every inch of the headlights, wipe away the toothpaste with a damp towel. You’ll see that your headlights are shining like never before.

DIY Cleaner

To clean the upholstery of your car we’re going to make a DIY cleaner. Grab a spray bottle and a funnel. Combine 120 millilitres vinegar, 240 millilitres club soda and 60 millilitres lemon juice. Shake the bottle and spray the surface you want to clean. It works perfectly on fabric upholstery, and it will make your car smell amazing. Spray it on the surface you want to clean and rub it clean with a hard bristled brush. Use a damp towel to wipe all excess dirt and grime after you’ve scrubbed it with the brush. This method works great on fabric upholstery, but also on the mats.

Remove scratches

This method only works for superficial scratches that mainly consist of dirt, because to fix deeper scratches you’ll need to contact a professional. To clean superficial scratches pour a little nail polish remover without acetone on a microfiber cloth and rub the scratches away.

Tidy your car

We haul all kinds of rubbish around in our car. Jump cables, an ice scraper, bottles of water, gym shoes and what have you. Even if you’re not an organisational talent, try to clean it at least once every six months. Throw rubbish out and remove anything you don’t really need from the car. To help you get organized, we have a great trick for you. Buy a hanging shoe organizer (as seen on the picture) and cut off the bottom half. Hang it from the back of the back seat so it dangles in your trunk. Use hooks and two pieces of string. Put everything you need to have in your car in there, such as the ice scraper, jump cables and an extra pair of shoes. This way it won’t become one big mess when you’re driving around and you save space in your trunk for luggage.
