The stork began bringing food—not just for her chicks, but for the puppy as well. Small fish, pieces of bread, even a shiny foil-wrapped sausage from someone’s trash. She dropped them carefully into the nest, and the puppy nibbled away, happily sharing with his feathery companions.
“It’s as if she’s adopted him,” Dr. Merrin noted. “We believe she may have lost one of her chicks before the others hatched. The puppy may have filled that emotional void—and his calm nature seems to have made him an unlikely member of the brood.”
