The Reeds welcomed their puppy home, forever changed. But every now and then, the dog would sit by the edge of the dunes and look up when the gulls passed overhead.
Sometimes, one of the gulls would dip low in the sky, letting out a soft, familiar cry—as if acknowledging the bond they once shared. The puppy’s tail would wag gently, and for a moment, it almost seemed like they remembered each other.
Some bonds, it seems, truly transcend logic—and species.
