The Reeds were conflicted. Their sweet, gentle puppy was clearly safe and thriving in its new, highly unusual home. Dr. Avery recommended they give it time. And so, with help from the community, a small observation platform was built a few meters away to keep watch.
Over the following days, something incredible unfolded. The seagull continued to care for all five creatures equally. And the puppy? It adapted completely—barking softly when a strange gull approached, and even cuddling with the chicks at night.
Eventually, when the chicks began to flap their wings and hop toward the edge of the nest, the puppy stood watch like a proud older sibling. And when the time came for them to fly, the puppy climbed carefully down the rocks and walked—on its own—back toward the village.
