A Bridge Unfinished, A Village Connected

In Russia’s Trans-Baikal Region, the Kuandinsky Bridge stretches 570 meters over the Vitim River. Barely over two meters wide and devoid of any safety features, this bridge is a true test of courage. Its structure, weakened by decay and covered in ice for most of the year, poses a constant threat of disaster to those who dare cross.

Originally meant to be part of the Baikal–Amur Mainline railway, the bridge was never completed. However, it became essential for the residents of Kuanda, a nearby village, serving as a crucial but perilous connection. Despite lacking official status as a vehicle bridge and receiving no maintenance, the community has kept it passable through sheer determination and makeshift repairs.
