As Randy reached the oak tree and leaned over to check on him, Arthur suddenly whipped around and whacked Randy hard across the back of the head. "You absolute idiot!" Arthur hissed in a furious whisper, clutching a cell phone to his ear with his other hand. "Do you have any idea what you just put on my porch?"
Randy rubbed the back of his aching head, entirely bewildered. "No! I told you, I thought they were old cannonballs!" Arthur shook his head in disbelieving terror, his eyes wide as he spoke into the phone, frantically giving the emergency operator his address and reporting an immediate, high-priority military explosive threat.
"Those aren't cannonballs, you fool!" Arthur snapped, lowering the phone for a brief second to glare at Randy. "Those are BLU-63 cluster bomblets! Live military submunitions! The ridges on the side arm an internal fuse, and when you hit it with that hammer, you activated the mechanical chemical timer!"
