"What did you say you did to them?" Arthur whispered, his voice cracking with sudden, overwhelming panic. His face turned ghostly pale in the moonlight. "How many times did you hit it?" Randy, completely unaware of the danger, reached down into the box to pick up the warm, whistling sphere, intending to show Arthur the seam where the sound was coming from.
"Right here on the top, I tapped it with a ball-peen hammer—" Randy started, lifting the heavy metal ball into the light. Arthur let out a terrified shriek, his hands flying up to cover his face. "Put it down! Put it down and run!" Arthur screamed at the top of his lungs, his voice echoing off the surrounding buildings.
Before Randy could even ask what was wrong, Arthur turned on his heel and bolted down the steps, sprinting wildly into the darkness. Overwhelmed by sudden, blinding confusion, Randy dropped the sphere back into the box and took off running in the opposite direction. He sprinted around the corner of the building, his heart slamming against his ribs as he scrambled for cover.
