"NO!" she shrieked, jumping out of her seat as if she'd been struck by lightning. The flimsy plastic lid popped off on impact with a wet snap. A cold, dark, sticky tidal wave of espresso, whole milk, and crushed ice drenched the front of her expensive leather coat, splashed across her chin, and flooded straight down the front of her pristine jeans.
Heavy droplets sprayed the nearby window glass, dripping slowly down the dark pane. For a fraction of a second, the entire carriage went dead quiet. The collective breath of fifty commuters hitched in unison.
The young woman stood frozen in the narrow aisle, her hands hovering helplessly in absolute, unadulterated horror. Sticky brown coffee was actively dripping from her chest, and turning her expensive outfit into a sodden, ruining mess. She could only stare down at her soaked boots in sheer disbelief.
