Jason’s voice shook a bit as he began, his nervousness showing. “Like, for real,” he said, sounding unsure, “I found, like, a bunch of fancy jewelry stashed away in her drawers. Stuff she never wore when my dad was around.” He paused, trying to find the right words. “It’s kinda like she was, you know, hiding a part of herself, pretending to be someone she ain’t.”
He hesitated again before blurting out, “Oh, and on top of all that, how in the world did she get those super pricey earrings, bracelets, and necklaces with just her waitress’s salary?” Jason’s question hung in the air, implying more than what was said, pointing towards the unsaid suspicions that had been haunting him.
