At 3:53, the quiet static on the radio channel finally popped back to life. "Dispatch, Car 12, moving on foot," Reed whispered. Teresa could hear the crunch of gravel and a lawn mower running somewhere nearby, a completely normal Saturday on a quiet suburban street.
"Hold on. Front window," Reed reported softly. "The living room curtain just moved. Big guy, reddish beard, watching the driveway." Teresa gripped the hard plastic edge of her desk, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Car 12, do not break cover," she instructed, having no clue what Reed was setting up. "Stay out of sight."
"Curtain's down. He's moving toward the front door," Reed whispered. Over the radio speaker, Teresa suddenly heard footsteps ascending wooden porch steps. Then, an unfamiliar civilian voice called out loudly from the porch: "Delivery for Kayla!" Teresa's eyes widened as she looked at Luis. Reed had somehow flagged down an actual door-to-door courier on the street to pull Derek right to the door. "Going in," Reed breathed.
