Woman Calls 911 and Orders a Large Pizza – The Dispatcher Realizes Why and Sends Every Car

"Almost done," Kayla said, her voice barely wavering. "They need the address again." Now Teresa had a name. She typed Kayla next to the address in the records system, and the county database answered in less than a second. A glowing yellow box popped up across her primary display screen.

An active order of protection, issued three weeks ago. Protected party: Kayla Simmons, 27, of 41 Birch Lane. Respondent: Derek Vance, 34. Ex-boyfriend. Restricted: Not allowed within 500 feet of the house under any circumstances. Teresa's mouth went completely dry. He wasn't supposed to be there at all. "Ma'am," Teresa said smoothly, keeping her voice light, "is the man there someone you used to date?" Kayla leaned away from the room, her voice dropping into a barely audible, rushed whisper: "Yes... he's an ex."

"Did you let him in?" A long, shaky breath whistled through the microphone. "No... he forced his way in." Luis leaned over Teresa's desk and tapped the screen. The protection order had been served to Derek nine days ago; he knew exactly where he wasn't allowed to be. In Teresa's headset, Derek's deep voice suddenly cut in close to the receiver: "Give me the phone, Kayla."
