An Old Filing Cabinet Becomes the Ultimate Tool Organizer
Garden tools are useful, but storing them neatly can be a constant problem. Rakes, shovels, hoes, and brooms are tall, awkward, and easy to knock over. Lean them against a wall, and they soon slide into a tangled, messy heap. That is where an old metal filing cabinet can suddenly become valuable. Instead of holding folders, the cabinet can be stripped back and turned into a simple upright organizer for long-handled tools.
The idea is straightforward. Remove the parts that are no longer needed and use the cabinet body as a strong base. The remaining openings can separate different tools and keep their handles standing upright. Heavy metal helps stop the organizer from tipping, while the divided sections make everything easier to see. You can also attach a few sturdy hooks to the sides for smaller items such as hand trowels, pruning shears, gloves, or brushes. This makes use of the outside of the cabinet as well as the inside. A coat of outdoor paint can improve the look and protect the metal.
This small change can make a surprisingly big difference. Tools no longer need to be stacked in corners or pulled from under one another. Each item has its own place, so grabbing the right one takes seconds. The next idea is perhaps less practical, but quite eye-catching.
