Truck Driver Rescues Unconscious Girl (17) — Then Police Make a Startling Discovery…

Detective Laura Bennett was finishing paperwork when a hospital called about an unconscious seventeen-year-old found beside the highway. By the time she arrived, the girl was stable but still unresponsive. A truck driver named Jack Mercer waited nearby. “She was walking along the shoulder,” he told Laura. “Then she just dropped.” The girl’s license identified her as Anna Cole.

Laura checked Anna’s bag with a nurse present. There was cash, a dead phone, folded papers, but nothing that explained why she had been alone. Doctors said dehydration, exhaustion, and a mild concussion were likely responsible. “Any sign she was hit or injured?” Laura asked. The doctor shook his head. “No. She probably knocked her head when she collapsed.” Jack added that Anna had looked behind herself twice before falling.

Laura used Anna’s address and sent two patrol officers to the Cole residence. Nobody answered. A records check showed two vehicles registered to Helen and Richard Cole, but only one sat outside. The other, a dark sedan, was gone. Laura looked through the glass at Anna. Someone from that house was out there. The question was why Anna was out unaccompanied and why the parents hadn’t reported her missing.
