The family safely named the little historical anomaly “Forest.” The vet assured them that the green dye was entirely harmless and temporary; as Forest grew and shed his newborn fur, his traditional golden coat would naturally grow in over the coming weeks. Against all mathematical and medical odds, Rio successfully finished her marathon labor, fully recovering from her ordeal. Her days of scavenging in the cold were officially replaced by a warm hearth, endless treats, and a family who adored her.
All nine of the puppies thrived, growing larger and healthier by the day. While the other eight puppies were eventually spoken for, destined for incredible, loving homes across the country, Louise and Claire looked down at little Forest, whose mossy green coat was already beginning to fade into a beautiful cream. The miracle puppy who had given them the fright of their lives had already cast a spell on them. Forest had officially found his forever home.
