Woman Finds Hundreds Of Tiny Holes In Backyard — Then Expert Explains Why

By the time Laura found hundreds of holes that Tuesday morning, the problem had changed. She and Daniel spent the next hour checking every section of the yard. Some holes were tiny. Others were wide enough for Laura to fit two fingers inside. When Daniel pushed a garden stake into one near the middle, it slid down far more easily than they expected.

“That can’t be normal,” Laura said. She tried another spot several feet away. The stake stopped almost immediately. A third opening swallowed half its length before meeting resistance. The difference bothered her more than the holes themselves. It suggested the ground beneath the lawn was not the same everywhere. Laura called a pest-control company and explained what they had found. Someone came that afternoon to inspect the yard.

The technician searched for tracks, droppings, nests, tunnels, and fresh soil. Laura followed him closely, waiting for a simple answer. After twenty minutes, he stood up and brushed his hands clean. “I don’t see signs of an animal doing this,” he said. Laura looked across the lawn. “Then what is?” He shook his head. “I honestly don’t know. But I wouldn’t keep filling those holes until you find out.”
