Woman Finds Hundreds Of Tiny Holes In Backyard — Then Expert Explains Why

Three months earlier, Laura had stood in the same backyard and seen nothing worrying. The house was older than most on the street, but that was part of what she liked about it. The garden needed work, yet it had space, trees, and enough room for the patio she and Daniel wanted to build. On moving day, she had imagined summer dinners outside.

The previous owner had mentioned old drainage work and repairs made over the years, but Laura had not thought much about it. The house had passed inspection, the taps worked, and the yard looked ordinary apart from a few bare patches. Laura spent weekends cutting back bushes, clearing weeds, and planting flowers along the fence. “Give me one summer,” she told Daniel, “and this place will look different.”

There had been one odd thing. A strip of grass near the middle of the yard never seemed to grow properly. Laura reseeded it twice, watered it carefully, and blamed the shade when nothing changed. Sometimes the soil there felt softer after rain, but not enough to worry her. At the time, she had treated it as another job on a long list. Later, she would remember it differently.
