A Nevada State Trooper pulled up behind the disabled rig, his headlights cutting through the desert pitch. Relieved, Marcus walked back, expecting routine help for a breakdown on a dark highway. The officer stepped out, flashlight sweeping the gravel shoulder, and introduced himself as Trooper Vance. Marcus quickly explained the mysterious tapping, the sudden engine stall, and how rocking the truck revealed something heavy slamming around inside the secondary fuel tank.
Vance walked over to inspect the secondary tank himself. Suspicious of Marcus’s explanation, Vance unscrewed the heavy metal fuel cap and aimed his high-powered flashlight straight down into the fill neck. His entire posture froze. Floating near the top of the diesel fuel, sloshing against the internal walls, were tightly sealed, plastic-wrapped rectangular bundles.
Marcus leaned forward in total disbelief, his mind racing as he caught a glimpse of the submerged contraband. He had checked his rig constantly, yet somehow, someone had stuffed illicit packages directly into his fuel supply without his knowledge. Before he could open his mouth to ask what was happening, he heard the sharp snap of a duty belt pouch, followed by the cold, metallic rattle of handcuffs sliding free behind him.
