“We just pulled the initial assignment file from his digital tablet,” the security officer explained gently. “He’s an investigator hired by a rival tech company involved in a massive intellectual property lawsuit against Sarah. She’s a software developer, and they suspected she was flying to Nashville to meet a competitor. He was paid to shadow her and log her destination”
The door to the private room opened, and another passenger walked in, looking incredibly exhausted but deeply relieved. She had been sitting in the middle cabin, entirely unaware of the mix-up. “This is Sarah,” the officer said softly. “She was the actual target of the corporate surveillance.”
Sarah looked at Clara, then at Rosalind, a faint smile breaking through her exhaustion. “My former employers have been trying to find leverage to tank my lawsuit for weeks,” she explained. “If he hadn’t mistaken Clara for me, they might have fabricated something upon landing.”
