A few minutes later, the aircraft taxied into a remote parking apron rather than the runway, and the Captain announced a sudden, unexpected security hold over the PA system. The front cabin door swung open, and three uniformed TSA officials accompanied by airport police officers stepped onto the plane. They marched straight down the aisle to row 12.
“Sir, we need you to gather your items and step off the aircraft for an additional security screening,” the lead officer instructed Sam quietly. Sam frowned, completely bewildered by the extreme escalation, but he didn’t resist. He grabbed his laptop pouch and calmly followed them out of the cabin. As he passed the forward galley, he noticed Nicole standing in the corner. Her face was deathly pale, and she was sweating slightly, pointedly avoiding any direct eye contact with him as he walked past.
