Farmhand Spots His Boss Dragging Something At Midnight, But What He Did Next Made Him Dial 911

Eli retreated toward his fence line, but he couldn't keep his eyes off the old man. Raymond didn't use the crowbar. Instead, he wrapped something heavy in a greasy burlap tarp he pulled from his tractor shed, walking briskly toward his house. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn't an ordinary tree root.

Curiosity getting the better of him, Eli quietly crept near the side porch of the farmhouse. Through the open window, he heard Raymond speaking loudly into the landline telephone, describing a strange, heavy object he had pulled from the ground. After a long silence, Eli caught Raymond's frustrated reply: "What do you mean just leave it? Just leave it to break down in the dirt?!" Raymond slammed the receiver down, muttering curses under his breath.

Eli leaned back against the wooden wall, his brow furrowed. How did the person on the phone make Raymond look so deeply rattled? Something wasn't adding up.
