Emily stood frozen by her kitchen window, clutching her cold morning coffee as her chest tightened in complete helplessness. Outside, sprawling across her pristine back lawn, sat Tanya and a group of friends. They had dragged lawn chairs straight over the property line, setting up an uninvited morning cookout right beneath Emily’s bedroom window. Music buzzed from a portable speaker, empty cans littered the fresh grass, and Tanya sat at the center of it all in her faded leopard-print robe, laughing loudly as if she owned every inch of the cliffside property.
Emily felt a familiar, sickening hollow in her stomach. She had tried talking to Tanya. She had tried pleading with her to respect boundaries and keep the late-night noise down. Every time, Tanya would smile, offer a sweet promise that it wouldn't happen again, and then turn around and do something worse the very next day.
She was exhausted and completely trapped. This was supposed to be their paradise. Instead, she was paying three thousand dollars a month to be driven out of her own home.
