One of the most memorable images shows a turtle near the edge of the water. It is a quiet scene, almost still, with the turtle positioned between land and pond. For Grizzler, the attraction was probably the strangeness of the animal itself: slow, solid, unfamiliar, and alive.
A dog, a cat, a bowl, or a pair of sandals makes immediate sense. A turtle moves in a way a dog cannot easily predict. It carries its home on its back. It turns an ordinary walk into a small mystery.
