Sarah installed the camera high on a nursery shelf before Rebecca arrived. The angle showed the crib, changing table, and most of the rug. She told herself she was only checking on Lula, but she knew that was not true. At work, she kept the live feed open beside her email and watched whenever she thought nobody would notice.
For hours, nothing happened. Rebecca fed Lula, changed her diaper, read to her, and sat on the floor stacking soft blocks. When Lula fussed, Rebecca picked her up and walked slowly around the room. Sarah began to feel ashamed. She had turned a trusted nanny into a suspect without a single shred of real evidence.
After lunch, Rebecca warmed a bottle and fed Lula in the rocking chair. Lula drank most of it. Rebecca burped her, held her upright for several minutes, then carried her to the crib. Sarah forced herself to close the camera window and answer a message from work. Less than ten minutes later, her phone vibrated with a motion alert. She opened the live feed. Rebecca was leaning over the crib, both hands near Lula’s shoulders. Then Lula’s body suddenly jerked backward, and Sarah stopped breathing completely.
